For the Curious: The Optional Math
Seven optional appendices for anyone who wants to see the actual arithmetic. Never needed to finish the course, never past high-school level.
Seven optional appendices for anyone who wants to see the actual arithmetic behind the course. Nothing here is required: every core lesson stands on its own, and no quiz depends on any of it.
Each one is graded Easy, Medium, or Hard, and none goes past high-school level. The lessons link into them at the moment the math would help, so you can dip in and out — or read all seven end to end as a short course of their own.
What you'll carry out of this section
- Scientific notation, so enormous and tiny numbers stop being intimidating.
- The inverse-square law — the one piece of geometry behind both gravity and brightness.
- Kepler's third law as a cosmic stopwatch that weighs the Sun and black holes.
- E = mc², redshift and Hubble's law, escape velocity, and the distance ladder rung by rung.
